Chess for Wizards

   with Christopher Dunworth

Welcome to the Ancient Sport of Kings. And Queens.

Chess is one of the most ancient, and yet modern, of all games.
It originated in India some 1,400 years ago, and yet is best suited of all sports to computers, the internet and online competition.
I have taught scholastic chess courses in 40+ schools across London, Monmouthshire and Sussex as a National Junior Coach for over a decade now. In that time I have discovered that playing chess has many other beneficial side effects; it increases concentration, focus and confidence; it improves both social skills and academic performance; and most especially it teaches greater responsibility – the ‘touch move’ rule is one of the hardest that children learn from.
But best of all it’s great fun! It only takes an hour to learn, and yet a lifetime to master.

“Chess is a sea in which a gnat may drink and an elephant may bathe”
- Ancient Indian proverb

Scholastic Tuition

I currently teach in six schools in and around Brighton & Hove, plus Farlington School near Horsham. These are;
Stanford Junior, St. Aubyn's, Balfour Junior & Infants, Downs Junior, Lancing Prep & Pre-Prep and Somerhill Junior / Davigdor Infants.

Tuition takes the form of one group lesson per week lasting between 30 - 60 minutes, where teaching comprises roughly 35% of the lesson and the remainder is competitive play with plenty of prizes. Fees are usually payable termly.
